A few years ago, our Tulsa alumnae club was invited to have our membership meeting at the home of well-known sculptor, and Alpha Chi Omega, Rosalind Cook. Rosalind is an artist who has created over 30 life-sized sculptures in public places in the Tulsa area, plus more than 90 significant large works across the U.S. Her sculptures tell a story. In her book, "Capturing the Spirit in Bronze," Rosalind says that it's her "heart's desire to inspire others in their personal journey to fulfill their passion and their dreams." (p. 15).
In 2012, I was asked to consider the office of President for Alpha Chi Alpha. I was just beginning to become involved in the chapter, and was excited to meet other Alpha Chi sisters. I was eager to help, but unsure of my abilities--I couldn't even pronounce alumnae correctly! (It's "uh-LUM-nee", by the way, not "uh-LUM-nay"). I am grateful to Jessica Nalley, for her direction and leadership, and for her faith in my abilities. I am especially grateful for our AXA board members for their support, their experience, and their willingness to help in planning quality events for our chapter.
In these last four years, this position has allowed me to grow in various ways, like my organization and management abilities, and learning new ways to communicate using websites and social media. But I have also learned to lean on others for support; that I am never alone. I have learned that I have sisters there for me and eager to assist in projects that grow our membership. The more I learn about the Real. Strong. Women. of Alpha Chi Omega, the more I want to serve my Tulsa area sisters. Thank you ALL for helping me on my personal journey.
What is your personal journey? What is your heart's desire? Are you fulfilling your passion and your dreams? Let us know your story, and we will share it here in this space. You may email us at [email protected].
Please join us on Tuesday, April 26th at noon, at the Wild Fork, to view several of Rosalind Cook's sculptures around Utica Square! See below for more details.

Alpha Chi Omega Woman of the Year 2016
The Tulsa Area Alumnae Panhellenic hosted their annual luncheon at the Tulsa Country Club last Friday. Each sorority group in attendance honored one of their alumnae members as their Woman of the Year. Money raised from the luncheon tickets, the Silent Auction and 50/50 raffle went to support the Tulsa Public Schools Eyeglass Fund and TAAP Scholarship Fund. Alpha Chi Alpha honored Jessica Nalley. Her bio is below. Congratulations Jessica!
Jessica Kaplin Nalley is a Broken Arrow High native. She began studying dance at the age of four, and was accepted into the prestigious Ballet Pedagogy program at the University of Oklahoma to pursue a degree in dance. Unfortunately in the middle of her junior year she was injured during a ballet class and could not complete that degree. Changing her career path, she earned a degree in Elementary Education with endorsements in both Social Studies and English. She taught third grade at St. Pius School and second grade at St. Catherine School in west Tulsa until she gave birth to their first child and it was decided she would become a stay at home mom. Chris, her husband of sixteen years, her college sweetheart, works as a Project Manager in the oil and gas field.
Jessica is not new to the Bixby volunteer community, as they have three children in Bixby Public Schools. Their eighth grade daughter, Olivia, is at Bixby Middle School. Their son, Carter, is in sixth grade and our younger daughter, Sophia, is a fourth grader, both at Bixby North Intermediate.
She has had the privilege of serving as the PTA President at Bixby North Intermediate from 2010 until the present time. She is also an active member of the Bixby PTA Council, sitting on the PTA/PTO boards at Bixby North Elementary (formerly), North Intermediate and Middle School. She served as the Committee Chair for the PTA sponsored Grandparents Week since her oldest child started pre-k at Bixby North Elementary in 2006. With her older daughter starting middle school last year, she serves as co-chair of Bixby Middle School's PTO Fundraiser, Write-A-Check. Jessica serves on the Bixby Education Endowment Foundation (BEEF) Board and is currently involved in the 2016 BPS Bond Planning Committee as well.
She is a member of The Ark Sunday School class at Asbury United Methodist. She has volunteered at First United Methodist in Bixby coaching both of her daughters' Upward Cheer squads for many years and serving as the Cheer Commissioner over the cheer program. She also filled the role for two years of Cub Scout Popcorn Chair for her sons Bixby pack, Pack 41.
While at OU she was an active chapter member serving as the Vice President of New Member Education. She participated every year in U-Sing and Sooner Scandals, serving twice as director. As an alumnae, she is an active member of her Tulsa area alumni club, Alpha Chi Alpha, serving as President from 2009-2012. She is currently the Chairperson for the Monthly "Lunch Bunch" and has served on the Executive Board of AXA.
