Fast forward 12 years later, my husband and I were thrilled to find out that we were expecting a child after years of trying. I didn't really dwell on whether I wanted a girl or boy when I was pregnant, because frankly, when you find it difficult to conceive, you spend your time being thankful, not particular. Finally, in the summer of '98..."it's a BOY!!" Wait a minute. A BOY??? Where's my girl? My future Alpha Chi Angel? MY legacy?
Well, God knew what He was doing giving me a boy. My son is funny, smart, and talented. He's kind, caring, and sensitive. We're extremely proud of him and I'm happy to be his mom. He's 17 now, and our only child. And although I may still be able to have a legacy one day as a grandmother, I am extremely happy about the way things turned out for our little family.
What I didn't expect after college, was how much I would enjoy alumna status. I had made close connections with a few sisters in college, but being an alumnae club member has provided me with dozens of other A-Chi-O's who are now my friends. We are all different ages, representing different collegiate chapters around the country. We have varied interests, but are all connected through the bond we share as sisters. Sisterhood has a different meaning as an alumna than as a collegiate, and it's VERY rewarding.
